Hello everyone and welcome back. Happy Saturday! I can’t believe how quick the days and weeks are going, it really only feels like Wednesday was yesterday (LOL). So today, I thought I’d share with you how I manage a decent work-life balance.
I wake up at the same time every morning
Keeping consistency is the most important thing to do if you want to have that work-life balance. For me going to sleep roughly about the same time and then waking up at the same, has helped me to plan out my day effectively. I like to get up that little bit earlier because I enjoy the chill time and having the time to write up a to-do list for the day, I just feel that this really helps me be productive throughout the day, and helps get it out of the way. There are days sometimes where I fall a bit out of schedule, but that’s okay to do so (everyone doesn’t always stick to their time). Take a corporate company for example, if there is a meeting to talk about new proposal plans to increase profit, the speaker of the meeting can overrun the meeting, making it longer than it should. What I’m basically trying to say, is if you’re one of those people who don’t have a basic plan for their day, then I would suggest starting today, you won’t regret a thing!
Prioritise “Me-Time”
For me, I hardly give myself some personal time, I am always working (especially those that know me I’m like this). If I’m not doing my classes, I’m studying, and if I’m not studying, then I am at work or helping with shopping or around the house. However, despite the heavy work-load, I always make sure I make quality time for myself. Prioritising time for yourself will be beneficial for your mental health, as you need some time away from all duties, tasks, and other things you do on a day-to-day basis and chill out. Yes, it may seem easier said than done, but don’t forget that, in order for you to complete those tasks, you got to look after your own health and wellbeing.
So next time you finish work or spent an hour-long study period, take a break. You deserved it! Working on something for too long can cause you to procrastinate, due to the amount of tasks you’re trying to complete.
Keeping a varied and healthy diet
This is extremely important because your health should be your number one priority when it comes to anything. Throughout the day I try to include one of my five a day and include things that are high in protein, iron, or vitamin D. Just getting the right amount of vitamins and proteins for your body to work efficiently is crucial to setting you up for the day. In the morning, this is when I have my main meal of the day, if I have a completely busy day ahead of me, I will usually eat something that is somewhat high in carbohydrates or contains iron. Eating cereals like Weetabix or barn flakes contains a whole load of iron, which can be used to reduce tiredness, and helps you to get on better throughout your day without feeling tired or sluggish.
Sticking to the same time schedule
This is relatively important to me because as well as being a full-time student at high school, I also work part-time, so I have to careful when balancing out my day. This is mainly the reason why I get up so early in the morning, I tend to get more done in the morning than I do in the day. But overall, this just helps me to think better and know when I go to work later in the afternoon, I don’t need to worry about anything I haven’t finished, or things that I have to look at and complete.
Plus, I am also one of many siblings in the house, so I need to help out with around the house, like making breakfast in the morning, taking the dog a walk, and much more. So, for me having a schedule for the day helps me to think straight and helps me to oversight the tasks I have to do in the day.
Meditating in the morning
For some, meditation can seem a little intimidating and silly, but they have not felt the benefits of meditating in the morning. Meditating first thing will not only help set you up for the day, but it will also help boost your mood. This is especially if you experience feelings of drowsiness in the morning and feel kind of sluggish. I like to meditate in the morning because it helps me to think more clearly about the tasks that lay ahead of me and help me to feel better about myself during the day. Meditating can also help with bettering your studying, such as concentration and focus.
In the morning or when I go to study, I will use an app that I love using personally, which is an app called “Let’s Meditate”. If you’ve read my other blogs, you’ve probably noticed I refer to this app every now and then. However, for those who don’t know what this app is, its an app that focuses on spoken meditation, helping to give the mind something to concentrate on while meditating to the music. This app is great for any time in the day and for anything. There are tons of different meditations you can listen to, my favourite meditation to listen to is the Zen Breath before Sleep, it just helps me to focus better at night and helps me to fall asleep better. So, if you’re someone that experiences issues sleeping at night, then I’d definitely recommend trying this app out.
